The Mirrored Hall
art direction, design, illustration, book design

The Mirrored Hall is an eclectic compilation of short stories from a variety of different authors, all curated by Brian Woodruff and Ian Morgenheim. I was given the pleasure of providing illustrations and the overall book design.
For the book’s cover, it’s designed to look as if the viewer is peering into a mirrored hall, with the colour darkening the further they look into the abyss.

The eclectic nature of the stories raised an interesting dilemma with respect to my illustration approach—how do I create cohesion amongst the many different stories? To do so, I went into public databases of photography and pulled a wide range of free-use images. I then cut them up, reassembled them, and applied various digital treatments to them to create the illustrations that accompany each story. The result are illustrations that have a similar look, but communicate wildly different ideas.
